A cursed sailor, a broken legend, and four centuries of unresolved emotional baggage. Best recipe for a musical.
About
A reimagining of the Flying Dutchman, told by the man inside the myth. Once every seven years, he comes ashore to tell his truth — or sing it — hoping to break the curse.
The Flying Dutchman is a contemporary one-man musical that retells the legend behind the infamous ghost ship through song, memory, and confession. Blending myth, queer history, and dark humour, it follows a sailor condemned to roam the seas — returning to land once every seven years to tell his story, and to search for something the legend forgot: not love, but truth and a place to belong.
The Story
What if the curse was never the whole truth? What if we never learnt the true reason of why the Flying Dutchman was condemned to the sea? Isn't it about time to hear his side of the story. The only side that really matters.

The Musical
'The Flying Dutchman' is a living work, still finding its shore. This page might be a little anchor. The first step to finding some solid ground.
At its heart, The Flying Dutchman is a single voice on stage — intimate, unreliable, funny, furious, and tender. Every legend needs a villain. This one decided to speak for himself. The story unfolds as a direct address to the audience: part performance, part memory, part survival instinct.
The score blends contemporary musical theatre with folk, shanty echoes, and modern storytelling. Songs carry love stories, grief, rage, and humour — sometimes advancing the plot, sometimes interrupting it, like memories that refuse to stay buried. Some stories just need to rise to the surface and long to be told. The true legend of the Flying Dutchman is one of those stories.
The Flying Dutchman is a myth about love, told by someone who was never allowed to name his. This version reclaims what traditional tellings leave out: the Dutchman’s forbidden and condemned love, his shame, the men he loved and lost, and ultimate the cost of silence and centruries of grief. The curse becomes a metaphor for erasure — and the act of telling the story becomes an act of resistance. Reclaiming his truth, his identity and his life.
While developed as a stage musical, the work is intentionally fluid. Future iterations may include audio-first experiences, digital releases, or hybrid forms — allowing the story to travel, return, and be heard in different ways. We will be posting updates on this page, as well as sneak peeks and little teasers. If you want to know more, watch this space.
This is not a finished monument, but a work in progress. The music, text, and form continue to evolve — shaped by performance, experimentation, and time. Like the Dutchman himself, the piece changes every time it comes ashore. We will post regular updates about the project, and also when you might be available to see it for yourself.Â
